The rooms have emptied, the balloons have deflated, and the walls have been cleared of the promotional posters.

However, for all those of us who attended Tuesday’s successful Creative Architects: Talks + Exhibition event at the University of Lagos the day will hopefully live long in the memory.

Creative Architects: Talks + Exhibition at the University of Lagos was staged to further enhance and promote the success story that is the architecture and visualization industry in Nigeria.

One who certainly has more reason than most to look back fondly on a day of conversation, inspiration and, yes, laughter is the winner of The Competition 2014.

We sincerely thank all those who entered the event, which we hosted to proudly promote the burgeoning architecture and visualization industry here in Nigeria. In our eyes, you are all winners and reminds us all of the sheer amounts of determination and talent which is available to architecture firms across our nation.

Sadly, though, the esteemed judges could choose only one victor. We hope you’ll join us in congratulating the winner of The Competition 2014, student architect Tolulope Sanusi, whose unique and beautifully presented redesign off the Civic Centre Towers in Lagos earned plaudits from all.

The winner of The Competition 2014, Tolulope Sanusi, is presented with her prize by one of the judges, esteemed Architect Yinka Gbotosho, at the conclusion of Creative Architects: Talks + Exhibition at the University of Lagos.

The judges were especially impressed by the way in which Tolulope understood the brief. After modelling the building, she designed an aesthetically appealing facade and then went on to represent those ideas in diagrams explained in her supplementary images.

Speaking to us about her victory Tolulope said: “It was a real shocker when my name was called as the winner. I was ecstatic to say the least. My family was very happy at my winning this and my friends shocked as well, though I found it hilarious when the judges realised I was a chick and not a guy.”

“The exposure this will bring is very welcome, and the competition submission will be a good addition to my portfolio. This is just the start.‎”

The runner up in The Competition 2014, Lekan Aboderin, is presented with his prize by Architect Yinka Gbotosho and Chronos Studeos Architect and Animation Supervisor Hassan Anifowose.

Please also extend your congratulations to the runner-up, Lekan Aboderin, for an impressive submission that shows that he too has a bright future ahead. With the likes of Lekan and Tolulope representing a new generation of architects we are sure that our industry is truly in safe hands.

Here, complete with her detailed notes is the winning submission by Tolulope Sanusi that so impressed the judges, Architects Yinka Gbotosho, Cosmos Olatunbosun and Seyi Akerele.

Check back in the days ahead for further coverage of this week’s event, including a full photo gallery and videos.
